Lesbian Lit Book Group – March

We have less time between meetings this time because of the short month and the way the days fall, so we’re reading our yearly graphic novel this month. We’ll be reading and talking about the (already much-talked about) Bingo Love by Tee Franklin. It’s been talked up because of its representation of people of color and older women and we’re so here for it! (We meet the first Tuesday of each month to talk about books with lesbian characters/issues/content, and all readers are welcome.)

Lesbian Lit Book Group – Jan

This month we’re reading a newer book, but it takes place decades ago, in the Roosevelt administration. White Houses is the story of Eleanor and her long-time lover, Lorena Hickok. Based on their letters to each other, it’s a fictitious telling of their relationship and more. As always, all readers welcome. (We meet the first Tuesday of the month, except this month because of New Year’s Day, to discuss books with lesbian characters/issues/content.)

Lesbian Lit Book Group – June

We’re reading a pretty new book this month, although it takes place in the 1920’s so you might think it’s one of our flashback months. Swearing Off Stars by Danielle Wong is historical fiction about women falling in love in London, and fighting for women’s rights at a time when they weren’t allowed to graduate from Oxford. Come tell us what you think of it! We meet the first Tuesday of the month to talk about books with lesbian content/characters/issues, and all readers are welcome.

Truly flashing back for our flashback month, we’re reading Patience & Sarah, by Isabel Miller, originally published in 1969 under the title A Place for Us. The book opens in 1816 so we’re really going back in time with this one. This book was originally self-published and ended up receiving the very first ever American Library Association’s Gay Book Award 2 years later. (We meet on the first Tuesday of every month to talk about books with lesbian content/characters/issues. All readers welcome.)
