Strong Girls, Strong Women, Strong Readers

Celebrate back to school with this event for strong girls, strong women, and strong readers! We’ll have local authors who write strong female characters for girls and women, leaves to color to make our tree ready for fall, a scavenger hunt, and more! Local author Cindy Brown will interview Suzy Vitello (12p), Kate Ristau (1p), and Sally Stember (2p), and lead the discussions in our courtyard.

Author Panel with Maud Powell, Kate Ristau, and Margaret Pinard

Come hear authors Maud Powell (City of Grit and Gold), Kate Ristau (Clockbreakers), and Margaret Pinard (The Keening). This is a fun young adult and historical fiction mashup panel, because these authors do all of these things. Hear a bit from their books, and then let’s talk history, research, and young adult books!

Willamette Writers Authors Tabling

Come meet Willamette Writers authors as they sign their books and talk about writing! They’ll be outside the shop from 1-3, and you can meet Kate Ristau, Johnny Scotch and maybe a couple others.

Strong Female Characters

Long before the election, we’d planned on talking Overcoming with Kathleen Lane (The Best Worst Thing), Kate Gray (Carry the Sky), and Kate Ristau (Clockbreakers). Now it only seems more prescient than ever to be talking about this. So join us to talk overcoming in general, for their characters, for their writing, and for strong female characters everywhere. (This is part of a free quarterly discussion featuring 3 local female authors who come and discuss issues that matter to female readers, writers, and characters.)
